Papers consist of correspondence; writings; Clematis bibliography; lists of trees and shrubs at Spingarn's estate, Troutbeck, in Amenia, N.Y.; photographs of Clematis; and indexes. Papers deal primarily with the genus Clematis, about which Spingarn wrote extensively, and cultivated on his estate. Correspondents represented include commercial nurserymen and florists, amateur gardeners, writers and editors, and consular officials to whom Spingarn wrote in his efforts to find and introduce into commerce new types of Clematis.
